  11. The yoke can deflect the beam to
  12. hit any chosen location on the
  13. screen.
  14.     A pattern of control is
  15. applied. First, the beam is
  16. deflected to aim at the top left
  17. corner of the screen. Then it is
  18. moved from left to right. When it
  19. hits the right edge, it is turned
  20. off, and aimed at the left edge
  21. again, but a little bit lower.
  22. Then it is once again swept from
  23. left to right. This is repeated
  24. over and over again until the beam
  25. sweeps the bottom row from left to
  26. right.  The whole procedure

  30. a second.
  31.    A monochrome picture is entirely
  32. composed of dots, so anywhere there
  33. is to be a dot, the gun is
  34. turned on during its sweep, and
  35. where the picture is supposed
  36. to be dark, it is turned off.
  37. The dots slowly fade out. But
  38. if the picture stays the same,
  39. they are relit when the beam
  40. comes across again. If the
  41. picture changes, a new pattern
  42. of dots are lit up.

  46. the graphics resolution is 640
  47. dots across by 200 vertically.
  48. Each sweep of the gun can
  49. light up any of 640 locations
  50. from left to right. The gun
  51. makes a total of 200 sweeps
  52. working from top to bottom.
